We had breakfast in our room, ordered ten minutes before the 9:30 deadline. Very nice it was too; bacon, eggs, Cumberland Sausage, mushrooms and tomato.
We spent the day wandering around Windermere and Hawkshead.
In Windermere we sat and ate ice-creams down by the lake. I had cinder-toffee and chocolate, Jane had cappuccino and chocolate. I was surprised we weren't pestered by the swans. In Windermere than have learned to beg for food from tourists. I assumed we would be primed candidates, but we were not.
On our way back to the car we stopped at a local butchers and bought 3 pounds of Cumberland Sausage; two for us and one for Pat and John.
I got lost on the way to Hawkshead, as I always do. I followed the signs and ended up at the ferry. A quick turn-around and a bit of a drive eventually got us there.
Unfortunately, I ended up at the ferry again when we left Hawkshead. We tried to find our way around the lake but ended up on a single track road that looked as if it led to a yachting club. Another turn about and we decided to try the ferry anyway. This was a nice surprise. I expected it to be circa 8gbp per car but it was only 2! I probably spent more on petrol avoiding the ferry on the way to Hawkshead than I saved. The trip across the lake was very pleasant.
In the evening Jane was feeling a little better than she had the previous night. I had asparagus & ham to start, followed by venison. Jane had garlic bread followed by steak with a diane sauce. We washed it all down with another bottle of pinot grigio and a bottle of Borollo.
Back to bed at about 11:30.
