She was recovering quite well but then, the hospital thinks, she had a minor stroke. Since the stroke she has been in a side ward. When I arrived home the Friday before last (19th April) she had recovered somewhat but was sleeping when I visited. Jane told me she had been talking away all afternoon, which was a big improvement on the total silence of the previous 3 days.
She improved steadily over the next week but was not eating and drinking. She had a drip to keep her fluids up. On Saturday 20th John, her son, arrived from Canada. Sonia, his eldest daughter, was with him.
John and Sonia have visited Pat twice a day while they've been here. Last Friday, Pat asked for a drink. I searched high and low around Liscard looking for some Mackeson's but couldn't find any. I ended up buying a bottle of Guinness from The Tower. Pat had a small amount of this. John has said that over the weekend her fluid intake has increased well but that she is still not eating.
I haven't seen Pat since Saturday, when I took her some flowers while Jane was attending the out-of-hours surgery (see elsewhere).
