During our first visit, on Friday evening, Pat didn't know who we were, where she was or what had happened to her. She just kept repeating "let me get up" and throwing her legs over the side of her cot. Her attending nurse, in consultation with a doctor, decided to send her down to the high dependency unit (HDU). This was done while we were there. We saw her settled in and then left.
When we visited on Saturday Pat was still in the HDU. She was quite settled when we arrived but became more adjitated the longer we stayed. I think our presence gave her the hope that she could leave. We left early.
By the time we visited on Sunday Pat had returned to the general ward. We managed to get her to drink some orange juice. This was good as she'd been refusing all drinks and wouldn't let any of the nursing staff clean her mouth. Although she was a lot calmer out presence eventually disturbed her, so again, we had to leave early.
Fran called the ward this morning and was told that Pat had taken some drink and food and had smiled a couple of times. Unfortunately, when Fran visited Pat became distraught again and she had to leave. Jane has decided not to visit this evening. Hopefully tomorrow the drugs will have warn off further and Pat will be in better shape.
I'd pray for her, if I did that sort of thing.
