I'm currently reading a M. Pamplemousse Omnibus. In the final story, Monsieur Pamplemousse on the spot, he talks about visiting the dentist just to try out the phrase "you have taken the wrong tooth out!". The strangest example I've ever scene was in an English/Greek book that Dave bought. In it was the expression "The duck is behind the seagull". You may think it wouldn't be very useful but you'd be wrong. In its raw form it could liven up any conversation with a Greek.
